Chapter 1

Food and Feeding Habits of Animals

F. Answer these questions.

Que 1.  All animals depend on plants for their food. How?

Ans - All animals depend on plants for their food because all food chains begin from plants.

Que 2. Name different types of food that omnivores get from animals.

Ans - Milk, Eggs, Fish and Meat.

Que 3. Why do cows and goats need to be fed on grass and oilseed-cakes?

Ans - Animals like cows and goats need to be fed on grass and oilseed-cakes because these are milk producing food.

Que 4. How does an earthworm have its food?

Ans - An earthworm swallows soil which has parts of dead plants and animals.

Que 5. Why should we take care of domestic animals?

Ans - Domestic animals serve us well if we take good care of them.

G. Think and answer.

1.  Does a frog need teeth? Why? Why not?

Workbook Class 6 Science Chapter 16 Garbage In, Garbage out

Chapter 16

Garbage In, Garbage Out

Exercise

I. Answer the following questions in brief:

Ans 1 - can be converted: (a) dry leaves (b) vegetable and fruit

can't be converted: (a) plastic (b) aluminum foil

Ans 2 - Vegetable waste, green leaves, husk is type given to red worms.

Ans 3 - Food that contain salt, pickle, oil, vinegar, meat and milk should not be given to red worms. If you put these things disease - causing small organisms start growing these things disease - causing small organisms start growing.

Ans 4 - Red worms do not have teeth. They have a structure called 'gizzard' which helps them in grinding their food.

Ans 5 - Red worms do not have teeth. They have a structure called 'gizzard' which helps them in grinding their food.

Ans 6 - They also need moisture around them. If you take good care of your worms, in a month's time their number will double.

Ans 7 - A paste made of clay paper and rice husk.

Ans 8 - Burning of these produces smoke and gases that are harmful to our health.

Ans 9 - We should not be burnt plastics because it is hazardous to environment and may cause many health problems, including cancers in humans. Plastic should be sent for recycling agencies.

Ans 10 - We should not throw garbage in plastic bags as stray animals look for food in these bags, they end up swallowing these. Sometimes, they die due to this.

Ans 11 - Plastic bags thrown carelessly cause problems. As a result, drain get choked and the water spills on the roads.

Workbook Class 6 Science Chapter 15 Air Around Us

Chapter 15

Air Around Us

Exercise

I. Answer the following questions in brief:

Ans 1 - 99.2%

Ans 2 - Carbon-Di-oxide

Ans 3 - Those are the dust particles in the air.

Ans 4 - Fine hair and mucus present in our nostrils to prevent dust particles from getting into the respiratory system.

Ans 5 - We should not breathe through our month because harmful dust particles may enter your body.

Ans 6 - Because when they climb mountains,  as altitude increases, the amount of oxygen level in the atmosphere air decreases. As a result, mountaineers suffer from dizziness.

Ans 7 - Animals like earthworms living in the soil come out of the soil when it rains heavily because rainwater fills in their burrows and in order to respire they come out of the soil.

Ans 8 - (a) The windmills is used to draw water from tube wells.

(b) Windmills are clean and green sources of power.

Workbook Class 6 Science Chapter 14 Water

Chapter 14

Water

Exercise

I. Answer the following questions in brief:

Ans 1 - In the water cycle, evaporation occurs when sunlight warms the surface of the water.

Ans 2 - In the sunlight, because the temperature in the sunny area is higher than the shade and evaporation takes place at a faster rate at high temperature.

Ans 3 - Plant lose gallons of water every day through the process of transpiration.

Ans 4 - The basic idea behind rainwater harvesting is to catch water where it falls on the Earth's surface.

Ans 5 - Most of our groundwater come from rainfall.

Ans 6 - Pumping water out of the ground faster than it is replenished over the long - term causes similar problem  Groundwater depletion is caused by sustained groundwater pumping.

Ans 7 - Rainwater harvesting involves the process of diverting rainwater from surfaces to tanks or into the ground, for use at a later stage. By using harvesting rainwater, housing complex and individual households can reduce their dependence on municipal water supply.

Workbook Class 6 Science Chapter 13 Fun with Magnet

Chapter 13
Fun with Magnet

Exercise

Answer the following questions in brief:

Ans 1 (a) Iron, (b) Cobalt

Ans 2 Magnet , A piece of iron.

Ans 3 Iron

Ans 4 No, If we continue to split the magnet we will eventually get down to an iron atom with a north pole and south pole.

Ans 5 (a) Bar magnet   (b) Cylindrical magnet (c) Horse-shoe magnet (d) Ring magnet

Ans 6 (a) Iron - Iron is an extremely well known ferromagnetic

(b) Nickel - Nickel is another popular magnetic metal with ferromagnetic properties.

(c) Cobalt - Cobalt is an important ferromagnetic material

Ans 7 Repulsion is the sure test for magnetism because it takes place only between two like poles of magnet whereas attraction takes place between two unlike poles of a magnet and also between a magnetic material.

Ans 8 A bar magnet can be used to create a compass inorder to find the east direction. A compass is an instrument that is used to find direction. One end of the needle is often marked  "N" for north or colored in some way to indicate that it points toward North. East would be the direction that is perpendicular and to the right of the North Needle.
