Exercise
Answer the following questions in brief:
Ans 1 (a) Iron, (b) Cobalt
Ans 2 Magnet , A piece of iron.
Ans 3 Iron
Ans 4 No, If we continue to split the magnet we will eventually get down to an iron atom with a north pole and south pole.
Ans 5 (a) Bar magnet (b) Cylindrical magnet (c) Horse-shoe magnet (d) Ring magnet
Ans 6 (a) Iron - Iron is an extremely well known ferromagnetic
(b) Nickel - Nickel is another popular magnetic metal with ferromagnetic properties.
(c) Cobalt - Cobalt is an important ferromagnetic material
Ans 7 Repulsion is the sure test for magnetism because it takes place only between two like poles of magnet whereas attraction takes place between two unlike poles of a magnet and also between a magnetic material.
Ans 8 A bar magnet can be used to create a compass inorder to find the east direction. A compass is an instrument that is used to find direction. One end of the needle is often marked "N" for north or colored in some way to indicate that it points toward North. East would be the direction that is perpendicular and to the right of the North Needle.
